Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions is someone I truly admire. He is accessible, and unlike some pols, never backs away from a question or answers in vague, meandering terms. We are lucky to have him representing us in Congress.
Mr. Sessions has been at the forefront of defeating legislation granting amnesty to illegal aliens, who seem to enjoy all the privileges of America while we make things difficult for our own citizens. Check this e-mail from listener Scott, who is planning to marry a Canadian woman- and how he is being punished for being a good citizen-
"Tammy and I are going through all the legal stuff to have her stay in the states as my wife.
We are looking at a lawyers bill of around $8000 and it might take 9 months to 2 years before she can work. Why is it so hard for someone to do things the legal way yet if she snuck in, she could get healthcare and a job today? I thought we had a treaty with Canada. Why is is so hard for a Canadian to come here to marry and work? I would love to talk to him about this personally but work won't allow it."
Scott, we feel your pain. It is totally wrong that law abiding, well-intentioned Americans should be punished for doing the right thing. We will make this our first talking point with the Senator, and ask if there isn't something his office can do to help you.
The Senator will also offer his update on energy independence- an issue he's been on top of long before gas prices hit $4 a gallon. I hope you can join us.
